As the name suggests, the Premier League is England’s most prestigious and highest-level football league. It consists of twenty clubs. The current Premier League season (2024-25) began on 16 August 2024. After completing the thirteen remaining games, the league will conclude on 25 May 2025. The Premier League follows the double round-robin format, with each team playing 38 games.

Each club plays one game at home and one away, which results in a total of 380 games per season. The leading team at the moment is Liverpool F.C. The top scorer for the current season is Liverpool’s ace striker, Mohamed Salah, with 28 goals.

At the end of the season, 25 May 2025, the team with the most points in the table wins the Premier League title. The point gap between Liverpool (1st rank) and Arsenal (2nd rank) is 12. The 2024-25 Premier League has probably already engraved Liverpool’s name on the trophy.

Mohamed Salah, Alexander Isak and Erling Haaland were the three leading goal scorers of recent times; one of these players could possibly be among the top ten top scorers in Premier League History. The list is a mix of current and retired players who have longer careers than the current players.

10) Jermain Defoe – 162 Goals

Jermain Defoe played 496 Premier League games and scored 162 goals. He switched clubs in the league five times, and he scored his first Premier League goal in his third season for West Ham United. It was his second club, and he scored 10 goals for West Ham in his third season and eight goals in his final season.

Jermain’s highest tally was eighteen goals for Tottenham Hotspur in the 2009-10 season. Of the 168 total goals, he scored 106 for Spurs. The remaining 62 total he made up his contributions to West Ham United (18), Sunderland (34), and Bournemouth (4).

9) Robbie Fowler – 163 Goals

Robbie Fowler is the ninth highest-ranked player in the top ten scorers, with a one-goal lead over Jermain Defoe. Fowler scored 163 goals in 379 appearances in the Premier League. He spent the vast majority of his career at Liverpool F.C.

The majority of Fowler’s career goals were scored via Liverpool, with the remainder coming from Manchester City and Leeds United. He scored a total of 140 for Liverpool and 21 for Man City, with two remaining goals for Leeds United in 2002/03 when they played in the Premier League.

Thierry Henry is a retired French footballer who scored 175 goals from 258 appearances in the Premier League. Henry arrived in the Premier League as an Arsenal player way back in 1999-2000, and he completed his first season with 17 goals.

Henry scored 177 goals for Arsenal, including the loan and F.A. Cup appearances. Henry played for Arsenal from 1999-2012, with a break between 2007 and 2011.

7) Frank Lampard – 177 Goals

Frank Lampard, known for his performance as Chelsea’s attacking midfielder, has scored 177 goals in the Premier League. He joined West Ham United in 1993, and it wasn’t until his fifth season that he began scoring for the team.

He scored 177 goals for West Ham United, Chelsea and Manchester City in the Premier League. Suffice it to say, Lampard’s maximum goals came while he was at Chelsea.

6) Sergio Agüero – 184 Goals

Manchester City’s ace striker, at one point, Sergio Agüero, made 278 appearances in the Premier League, scoring 184 goals. He entered the Premier League after joining Manchester City in 2011. Agüero was at Man City for 11 long seasons from 2011 to 2022.

All his Premier League goals came from his time at Manchester City. He was also the top goalscorer from 2014 to 2016.

5) Mohamed Salah – 186 Goals

Mohamed Salah, bringing his total to 187 goals, as it stands, Andrew Cole has 187 goals. His Premier League career started at Newcastle United, where he was the league’s top goalscorer in a remarkable 34-goal season. He was then transferred over to Man United (93), where most of his goals came from during his career.

He then moved to Blackburn Rovers (27), Fulham (12), Manchester City (9), Portsmouth (3) and Sunderland (0). He made a total of 414 appearances in the Premier League, scoring 187 goals.

4) Andrew Cole – 187 Goals

Andrew Cole has 187 goals on his record. His Premier League career started at Newcastle United, where he became the top goalscorer in the league by scoring 34 goals in his first season. He transferred to Man United (93), where he scored most of his goals.

From there, he went to Blackburn Rovers (27), Fulham (12), Manchester City (9), Portsmouth (3), and Sunderland (0). Overall, he made 414 appearances in the Premier League and scored 187 goals.

3) Wayne Rooney – 208 Goals

Wayne Rooney is known to be one of the best strikers and midfielders of his time. He began his Premier League career at Everton in 2001. His full potential was unleashed when he joined Manchester United in 2004.

From 2004 to 2017 (13 seasons), Rooney scored 183 goals at Manchester United. After that, he returned to Everton. His total goals from Everton were 25. In 291 appearances, Wayne Rooney had scored 208 goals.

2) Harry Kane – 213 Goals

Harry Kane began at Tottenham Hotspur in 2009 but switched teams after sitting out two seasons. He did not even get to play in Milwaukee, so he went to Leicester City, playing one game in the season. He was loaned to Norwich City, and he played three games in the season.

Harry Kane came back to Tottenham Hotspur in 2013, where he started a lengthy goal-scoring record. He scored 213 goals for Spurs from 2013 through 2024. He was the three-time top goal scorer in 2015-16 (25), 2016-17 (29), and 2020-21 (23). Harry Kane became Tottenham’s all-time goal scorer.

1) Alan Shearer – 260 Goals

The most goals scored in the Premier League belong to Alan Shearer, with 260 goals in 441 games. Alan became the leading goalscorer in the Premier League when he scored 34 goals in 1994-95 at Blackburn Rovers and again in 1995-96 with 31 goals. Alan joined Newcastle United and became the leading goalscorer in 1996-97 with 35 goals in the Premier League.

Alan scored 112 goals in four seasons for Blackburn Rovers. 148 of those goals came from 10 seasons at Newcastle United. Alan Shearer is the highest goal scorer in Premier League history.
