The 2025 Asia Cup is a biennial T20 cricket tournament for Asian countries. It’s the seventeenth Edition of the Asia Cup, which is scheduled for September 2025. Eight countries from the Asian continent will participate in the tournament. The International Cricket Council’s (ICC) full members are qualified for the tournament by default. The remaining teams are picked based on their 224 ACC Premier Cup rankings.
The Asia Cup 2025 games will be played in a group and knockout stage format. The group and knockout stage games will follow the single round-robin format. Only four teams will qualify from the group stage into the knockout stage, called the Super Four. The top two teams from the Super Four will advance to the Asia Cup 2025 finals.
India became the champions after defeating Sri Lanka in the 2023 Asia Cup. The Asia Cup was established in 1983, and its debut season was held in April 1984. Only three teams participated in the first Edition of the Asia Cup: India, Sri Lanka and Pakistan. India claimed their first title in the debut season itself.
Currently, India is not only the defending champions of the Asia Cup but also the team with eight Asia Cup titles. It makes them the most successful team in the history of the Asia Cup to date.

More Information
The media disguised the news of India’s non-participation under the “official BCCI announcement.” However, the BCCI president, Devajit Saikia, stated these were just imaginary speculations.
Devajit Sakia’s statement to the IANS: “Since this morning, it has come to our notice about some news items about BCCI’s decision not to participate in the Asia Cup and Women’s Emerging Teams Asia Cup, both ACC’s events. Such news is devoid of any truth as till now, BCCI has not even discussed or taken any such steps regarding the ensuing ACC events, let alone writing anything to the ACC. At this stage, our prime focus is on the ongoing IPL and subsequent England series, both men and women.“
“The Asia Cup matter or any other ACC event issue has not come up for discussion at any level, hence any news or report on that is purely speculative and imaginary. It may be said that BCCI, as and when any discussion on any ACC events takes place and any important decision is reached, same will be announced through media.”
