Virat Kohli breaks another world record in Vijay Hazare Trophy

It seems normal for Virat Kohli, as on another day, he breaks another record, and this time it is a world record. Virat Kohli breaks another world record in the Vijay Hazare Trophy as he now becomes the player to have the highest average in List-A cricket with a minimum of 5000 runs. Basically, he breaks Michael Bevan’s world record of the highest average in List A cricket history.

Eventually, it was almost 15 years later that Virat Kohli returned to playing the Vijay Hazare Trophy on 24th December. His first match was against the Andhra Pradesh team, and the BCCI Centre of Excellence Ground 1 in Bengaluru was the venue for the first match. He scored 131 runs in just 101 balls, which included fourteen boundaries and three big sixes. Eventually, Delhi won the match by four wickets.

Virat Kohli breaks another world record in Vijay Hazare Trophy

When we looked at the last match in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, Virat Kohli scored his 58th century in List A cricket. He also completed 16,000 runs in List-A career. Virat is now just two centuries away from equaling his idol, Sachin Tendulkar’s record for the most centuries in List A career. Virat Kohli has already surpassed the great Sachin Tendulkar for the most centuries in ODI cricket, as he now has 53 ODI centuries.

This was the second match for Virat Kohli in the 2025 Vijay Hazare Trophy and surely the last as of now, as he would be playing for India in the upcoming three-match ODI series against New Zealand, which will start on 11th January 2026. The Delhi team was playing against the Gujarat team at the same venue as the previous match, the BCCI Centre of Excellence Ground 1 in Bengaluru.

Virat Kohli came back to his usual number three position after Delhi lost an early wicket. He came and just did his job and went back, and it is a normal day for him. Virat Kohli scored 77 runs in just 61 balls, which included 13 boundaries and just one big hit before Vishal Jayswal got him out. He also broke a world record in List A cricket as Virat Kohli now has the highest average in List A cricket history, as he broke Australia’s Michael Bevan’s record, which he held for years.
