Another day, and it is another record broken by a young Indian player in the under-19 format. Basically, Vaibhav Suryavanshi breaks Rishabh Pant’s record. The India under-19 team was playing their second youth ODI against the South Africa under-19 team after winning the first match. Willowmoore Park in Benoni was the venue of the match, and they eventually won the match and lead the series 2-0.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi is again in the news as he broke another record in cricket, and this time he broke the record previously held by his countryman, Rishabh Pant. The 14-year-old superstar smashed 68 runs in just 24 balls as he reached his fifty in just 15 balls. After the magical and fiery knock, Vaibhav Suryavanshi has become the player to score the fastest fifty in Youth ODIs for India, and what a record to put to his name.

Vaibhav Suryavanshi breaks Rishabh Pant’s record: What is the record?
The South African under-19s were batting first, and they had a decent start as the openers added 35 runs for the first wicket. Jason Rowles was the star of the show as he scored 114 runs in 113 balls, which included seven boundaries and three massive sixes. His century helped his team reach 245 runs as his team lost all their wickets. Kishan Kumar Singh was the best bowler for the Indian team as he had bowling figures of 4/46 in his 8.3 overs. The Indian team is to chase down a target of 246 runs to win the series, as they already won the first match.
There was no Ayush Mhatre, who was the captain of the Indian team, and Vaibhav Suryavanshi was given the captaincy. He led from the front. There was just one player who single-handedly destroyed the South African bowling attack as he scored 68 runs in just 24 balls, which included ten sixes and just one boundary. He smashed a 15-ball half-century. Abhigyan Kundu and Vedant Trivedi also chipped in a few runs as the India under-19 team chased the target in just 23.2 overs and secured the series as they lead the three-match series 2-0.
One thing is for sure, the Indian senior team selection is not far away for Vaibhav Suryavanshi, as he is consistently performing in the youth matches for the Indian team. He is in India’s U-19 World Cup 2026 squad, which starts on the 15th of January 2026 in Zimbabwe and Namibia. Before that, India under-19 and South Africa under-19 will play their final youth ODI on 7th January before they travel for the Under-19 World Cup.
