He completed his fifty in just 15 balls. Mumbai were playing Punjab in the seventh round of the Vjay Hazare Trophy 2025/2026 edition. Jaipuria Vidyalaya Ground in Jaipur was the venue for the match.

Sarfaraz Khan came into bat at number three and started going behind the bowlers from the first ball. He smashed India’s current superstar Abhishek Sharma for a quick 30 runs in one single over. Sarfaraz Khan scored 62 runs in just 20 balls before getting out to the leg spinner, Mayank Markande.

Abhishek Sharma was captaining the Punjab team while Shreyas Iyer was captaining the Mumbai team. Eventually, Shreyas won the toss and decided Mumbai would field first. Punjab batting first scored 216/10 in 45.1 overs. They lost quick wickets as Anmolpreet Singh scored 57, while Ramandeep Singh scored 72 runs. No other batter had a convincing performance. Musheer Khan was the best bowler for the Mumbai team as he picked up three wickets for 37 runs.

Angkrish Raghuvanshi and Musheer Khan came in open for the Mumbai team as they couldn’t convert their starts into big scores. Here comes in Sarfaraz Khan, and his mind was clear from the first ball that he wanted to take on every bowler. He scored 62 runs in just 20 balls, which included seven boundaries and five massive sixes. Sarfaraz Khan completed his fifty in 15 balls and set a record for the fastest fifty in List A cricket. The previous record was held by Baroda’s Atit Sheth, who did it in 18 balls.

After he got out, captain Shreyas Iyer tried, but Mumbai’s batting collapsed as at one stage they were 210 for 6 and just needing six runs to win. They lost all four of their wickets for just five, and eventually Mumbai lost the match by one run. They had more than 23 overs to score just six runs, but failed. Mumbai have qualified for the quarter-finals as they finished second on the table. Punjab finish as table toppers.
