Surely, the Mumbai Indians were the non-buisest team heading into the 2026 Indian Premier League auction as the MI squad 2026 was already completed before entering the auction, as they retained many players and also traded a few players before the auction. The Indian Premier League 2026 will start from the 26th of March 2026 and will end on the 31st of May 2026.
The last edition of the Indian Premier League started on a not-so-bad note for the Mumbai Indians, but they showed how they booked their place in the final four before they were knocked out in the Qualifier Two by the runner-ups of the IPL 2025, the Punjab Kings. Mumbai Indians are one of the two teams, along with CSK, who have a total of five Indian Premier League trophies in their bag. It has been 5 seasons since the last time the Mumbai Indians actually won an Indian Premier League title.

Before coming to the auction, the Mumbai Indians made three player signings in the Indian Premier League Trade Window. It was the Indian all-rounder Shardul Thakur for ₹2 crore, and the West Indian power hitter Sherfane Rutherford for ₹2.6 crore. Mumbai also brought in the Indian spinner, Mayank Markande. They came to the 2026 Indian Premier League auction with a budget of ₹2.75 crore, and they got a great player.
They brought back the South African wicketkeeper batter, Quinton De Kock, for his base cricket, which is ₹1 crore, and what a steal deal it was. Just to remind you, the last time Quinton De Kock was in the Mumbai Indians team, they won their 5th Indian Premier League title, and it was in 2020. They also purchase four uncapped Indians, and they are Atharva Ankolekar, Mohammad Izhar, Mayank Rawat, and Danish Malewar. The price of all players was ₹30 lakh.
The Mumbai team already looks balanced, and now the question will be, is there a place for Quinton De Kock to open the innings for Mumbai with Rohit Sharma? Eventually, the middle order looks completely settled with Surya Kumar Yadav, Naman Dhir, Tilak Varma, and Hardik Pandya. They also have Jasprit Bumrah, Deepak Chahar, and Trent Boult, who are likely to start.
