Latest List of Cricketers to Score a Century on ODI Debut (2025)

You either need amazing luck or skill to be one of the many Cricketers to score a Century on ODI Debut. So far, the Cricket World has seen nineteen cricketers achieve a maiden ODI century. It is considered a huge achievement to accomplish this feat.

There are several cricket legends who weren’t fortunate enough to complete this achievement. The upcoming players who have yet to set foot in the international ODI have the opportunity to be among the cricketers to score a century on ODI debut.

Latest List of Cricketers to Score a Century on ODI Debut (2025)

The first cricketer to score a maiden ODI century was Dennis Amiss, an English right-handed batsman. He had scored 103 runs in 134 balls against Australia. Another act is that this was the second international ODI match in the history of cricket.

The highest score until recently was 148 runs, which was set by a West Indies cricketer, Desmond Haynes. This record was broken in February 2025 by the latest cricketer to score a century in their ODI debut.

Mark Chapman is a Hong Kong and New Zealand cricketer. He represented Hong Kong from 2014 to 2016 and has been playing international cricket for New Zealand since 2018. Mark is a left-handed all-rounder who mostly excels in his batting skills.

He made his first debut against the UAE in the 2015–17 ICC World Cricket League Championship. Mark scored 124 runs off 116 balls with eleven boundaries and two sixes. He was not out at that score and was named the man of the match. Mark is also the first Hong Kong player to score a century in a debut ODI.

KL Rahul is the first and only Indian cricketer to score a century in his ODI debut. He is a wicket-keeper batsman, adept at both skills.

His debut match was against Zimbabwe during the India tour of Zimbabwe in 2016. Rahul had scored 100 runs in 115 balls, not out, crossing seven boundaries and a single six. He was also awarded the man of the match.

Temba Bavuma is a professional cricketer and also serves as the national captain for South Africa’s ODI and Test teams. Bavuma played his first ODI against the Ireland cricket team, under the captaincy of Quinton de Kock.

He scored 113 runs for the team, which helped the team win the match. For scoring these runs in his first international ODI match, he was awarded the player of the match award.

7) Imam-ul-Haq (PAK) – 18 October 2017

Imam-ul-Haq is a top-order batter for Pakistan in the national team. He is the second Pakistani cricketer to score a century in his first One-Day International.

Imam-ul-Haq scored precisely 100 runs in his maiden ODI match against Sri Lanka. This score consisted of five fours and two sixes. He not only fulfilled this achievement but was also the man of the match.

The third South African cricketer to score a century in his debut ODI career is Reeza Hendricks. He is an opening batter for the national team of South Africa.

Reeza’s debut in the ODI format was against Sri Lanka, in which he scored 102 runs off 89 balls. He did lose his wicket at that score but earned the man of the match title.

Abid Ali is a Pakistani cricketer known for scoring a century in ODIs in his debut. He is a former international cricketer who played as an opening batsman.

To be an opening batsman and play against Australian bowlers – be able to score 112 runs – takes some skill for sure. He did everything he could, but Pakistan lost the match.

4) Rahmanullah Gurbaz (AFG) – 21 January 2021

Rahmanullah Gurbaz is an Afghan cricketer, playing as a wicket-keeper batsman. He is the first Afghanistani batsman to score a maiden century in his first ODI match.

Rahmanullah’s first ODI match was in a series against Ireland in 2021. Although he lost his wicket, Rahmanullah had managed to score 127 runs in 127 balls with a perfect strike rate, with eight boundaries and nine sixes. At the end of the game, he was also named the man of the match.

Michael English, a Scottish cricketer, has only played one international match, which was his ODI debut. There’s not much information on his career statistics.

So, his only match was against Namibia in the 2024 Scotland Tri-Nation Series. Michael played 112 balls and scored 107 runs. As per the list, he is the only cricketer from Scotland to score a century in his first international ODI.

After Desmond Haynes, Amir Jangoo is the only other West Indies cricketer to hit an ODI debut century. He played as a batsman for the national team. His last international match was a few weeks ago on 21 May 2025.

Amir faced the Bangladesh team in the third ODI match. The only time he performed his best in the ODI format was in his debut. Amir’s 104 runs were the lifeline for the West Indies to win the match and give him the man of the match award.

In 2025, the first player to be on this list is Matthew Breetzke. Until now, he has played two One-Day International format matches.

To play against the New Zealand team and score 150 runs is an amazing achievement. What makes him even more impressive is that he set a new record that was previously set in 1978.
