Things really got messed up when Jason Gillespie, who is a legendary bowler in the history of cricket. Jason Gillespie resigned as the head coach of the Pakistan Cricket team just after being the coach of the Pakistan team for nine months, as he was appointed after Gary Kirsten stepped down as the coach of the Pakistan team. Jason was made the coach for the red-ball format, while Gary was the coach for the white-ball format.
During the time Jason Gillespie was the coach of the Pakistan Cricket team, his tenure can be counted as an average performance by the coach. First, Pakistan was playing England in a three-match test series. The Pakistan team lost the first match but made a comeback as they won the series 2-1. It was under him that Pakistan got whitewashed in the two-match test series at home against Bangladesh.
Jason Gillespie resigned as the head coach of the Pakistan Cricket team, saying, “ZERO communication with me about it- as Head Coach, I found this situation completely unacceptable”
A user on social media asked Jason Gillespie about why he decided to resign as the coach of the Pakistan team, and Jason had to provide an answer for the same. The former Australian legend came up with an instant answer and spoke about what he felt and everything that happened with him during his short tenure as the head coach of the Pakistan team when he was the head coach in the red-ball format.
I was coaching the Pakistan Test side. The PCB sacked our senior assistant coach with ZERO communication with me about it- as Head Coach, I found this situation completely unacceptable. There were a number of other issues which left me completely humiliated
He spoke about the assistant coach getting sacked, and he had no idea about the same; there was no communication with the head coach by the Pakistan Cricket Board, and this was happening for the first time with him. Jason did not understand what had happened, and surely this was not acceptable for him, as he is the coach and he should have his say in this matter. This was not it as Jason Gillespie also felt humiliated quite a lot of times, and he also pointed out the things that he found strange about the PCB chairman, Mohsin Naqvi.
Gary (Kirsten) came up with this great idea of a connection camp. Everyone in the Pakistani cricket team basically shared their experiences in that meeting. I flew in from Australia, Gary flew in from South Africa, the Chairman Mohsin Naqvi dialled in Zoom.
He is based in Lahore, but he did not come, while Gary came in from Africa. We both felt that the Chairman could not even drive 20 minutes to come here – that was a bit unusual.
Gary, who was the coach for the team in the white-ball format, had planned a great connection camp for the players, and Jason was impressed by the idea. All players were present for a key team-building session, which was happening in Lahore. Jason and Gary felt the Chairman was just 20 minutes away and should have attended the session, but he did not. He dialled in on Zoom but couldn’t be present physically for the same. Currently, Azhar Mahmood is Pakistan’s Test coach and has just three months left for his contract to end, and there are no indications of PCB going further with him, as there is still no confirmation or talks about the new coach.
