India Squad for the New Zealand ODI series: Siraj & Iyer return, Still no Shami

The India Squad for the New Zealand ODI series is confirmed, and there are some players who are making their comeback, with a few of them missing after the fans hoped for their return. Basically, India is all set to host New Zealand for a three-match ODI series, which starts on the 11th of January, as the last ODI will be on the 18th of January. The ODI series is also followed by a five-match T20I series.

India played their last white-ball cricket against South Africa in December. They won both the T20I and the ODI series against them. New Zealand hosted their last ODI series at home, and the West Indies were their opponents. They won the series 3-0. This is the third time in a row that the New Zealand team has won a series 3-0. This will surely be a very big test for the Indian team playing against New Zealand.

India Squad for the New Zealand ODI series: Siraj & Iyer return, Still no Shami

After being dropped for the T20I series and the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, Shubman Gill returns to the team and will be the captain for the Indian team in this ODI series. As of now, Shreyas Iyer is named as the vice-captain of the Indian team for this series. It all depends on his fitness, whether he will play the series or not. Currently, he is playing for the Mumbai team in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. There is no place for Ruturaj Gaikwad in the Indian team for this series after he had a great series against South Africa.

As expected, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma return to the Indian team for the ODI series against New Zealand. Rishabh Pant also makes a place in the team again, and whether he will play or not is a question, as the other wicketkeeper is KL Rahul. Mohammed Sirah got his name in the Indian squad after he missed out on the South Africa series. He is a regular player for the Indian team in the test match format.

Hardik Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah, and Tilak Varma are not included in the squad for the ODI series. They are given rest as they are part of the T20I team and also the T20 World Cup. Ishan Kishan had his name in the T20 World Cup but still has to wait to make a comeback in the ODI squad. There were a lot of questions about Mohommad Shami getting a place in the team and it seems that the selectors have moved on from him as he again does not get a place in the team.
