Huge blow for South Africa as two of their big names are set to miss the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, which starts on the 7th February and ends on the 8th March in India and Sri Lanka. Huge blow for South Africa: Two key players out of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 Squad
South Africa still awaits their first-ever ICC Men’s T20 title, and now it could be on hold as they suffered two major injury scares. Tony de Zorzi and Donovan Ferreira, both players, are ruled out of the tenth edition of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. Tony de Zorzi is a wicketkeeper batter. He basically got a right hamstring muscle tear while playing against India in the ODI series in December 2025, and it is now confirmed that he won’t recover to play the T20 World Cup, which starts on 7th February.
At the same time, Donovan Ferreira plays as a batting all-rounder for the South Africa team. He got a fracture of his left clavicle when he was playing for the Joburg Super Kings’ SA20 clash against Pretoria Capitals at the Wanderers Stadium on Saturday. With just less than two weeks to go for the mega event to commence, he would also not be able to recover 100%. This makes both players out of the T20 World Cup squad.
Ryan Rickelton and Tristan Stubbs, who did not make the 15-member squad, were announced as the replacements for Tony de Zorzi and Donovan Ferreira. Another blow for the South African team would be the absence of David Miller from the T20 World Cup if he does not recover, as he suffered an adductor muscle injury on Monday while playing for Paarl Royals.
