Just recently, one of the former legends of the Indian cricket team, who was part of the 1983 World Cup-winning squad, shared his thoughts on a young superstar on his YouTube channel. Srikkanth speaks on Vaibhav Suryavanshi as he says, “He should be fast-tracked and brought into the Indian team soon”. The player has been performing very well recently in domestic matches.
In the Under-19 Asia Cup, Vaibhav Suryavanshi against the United Arab Emirates team was unstoppable as he scored an entertaining knock of 171 runs in just 95 balls and created a new record by breaking the record which was earlier held by Ambati Rayudu. In that innings, Vaibhav Suryavanshi smashed nine boundaries and also made the ball go over the boundary line 15 times in the match. He also scored the joint-third-fastest century by an Indian in men’s T20s earlier this year.

Vaibhav Suryavanshi came into the scene when he was purchased by the Rajasthan Royals in the previous season of the Indian Premier League at the age of just 13. He announced himself and smashed the bowlers all over the park when he was given the chance by the Rajasthan team. From there, his journey started, and we are not far when we see Vaibhav Suryavanshi wearing that blue Indian jersey and making his debut for the Indian cricket team very soon.
Vaibhav is scoring centuries everywhere, be it the IPL, U19, anywhere. You can say it is against Arunachal Pradesh but that is a different story. This boy has been hammering everybody across all kinds of matches. I had told last year also that they should fast-track him for the T20 World Cup. Maybe it is too late for that now, but they still fast-track him into the team. This boy has got tremendous potential. He should be fast-tracked and brought into the Indian team soon
Srikkanth is a big fan of the youngster, as he spoke about the magical innings the player has played so far whenever he has been given a chance. He has performed in the Indian Premier League, the under-19 matches, and just recently in the Vijay Hazare trophy as well, for his team. Srikkanth also said last year that he would want Vaibhav to play the T20 World Cup. He also thinks that the player should enter the Indian team as soon as possible, and it will benefit the Indian team.
People say let him play for some more time, let him do this, let him do that. Sachin also played a such a young age. Of course, he played for India after scoring hundreds at all levels, but the same thing can be done for this boy in white-ball cricket
He also thinks that people outside feel that it is too early for him to make his debut for India and should have been given more than he was at the under-19 and domestic levels. Still, he also spoke about how Sachin Tendulkar made his debut at an early age, and we can see that it has been beneficial to the Indian team. 2026 can be the year when we can see that Vaibhav makes his international debut for India.
