Harleen Deol answers with the bat: Retired hurt vs Delhi, Game changer vs Mumbai

Cricket is surely a beautiful game, as one day you might be the one who can’t help your team, and on the other hand, you will be the deciding factor. The same happened with the Indian team player, Harleen Doel. Basically, Harleen Deol answers with the bat, as she was called back by the coach Abhishek Nayar in the match against Delhi, but scores a match-winning knock against Mumbai to help her team get their first win in the Women’s Premier League 2026.

It was the match against the Delhi Capitals Women’s when Harleen was batting on 47* in 26 balls, and the coach called her back as he thought Harleen was playing a little off the pace. She asked, “Me,” when the coach Abhishek Nayar raised his hands to call a player out. Harleen did not give a reaction and silently came out. Eventually, her team, the UP Warriorz, lost the match by seven wickets, and it was their third straight loss in the competition.

It was the eighth match in the Women’s Premier League 2026 as the Mumbai Indians Women were taking on the UP Warriorz Women at the Dr DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai. It was a must-win match for the UP Warriorz Women as they had zero points in the three matches they played in the competition. Mumbai Indians Women scored 161/5 in their 20 overs and set a target of 162 runs. Nat Sciver-Brunt was the top scorer for the Mumbai team as she scored 65 runs in 43 balls, which included nine boundaries and one six.

The UP Warriorz Women were 45/2 in 6.5 overs when Harleen came in to bat. It was just the Harleen Doel show from that moment. She scored 69* in just 39 balls, which included 12 boundaries. Harleen looked spot on from the first ball of her innings as she scored four boundaries in her first five balls. She completed her fifty in just 31 balls. Eventually, the UP Warriorz Women won the match by seven wickets and 11 balls to spare. This was their first win in the competition, as the UP Warriorz Women are still last in the points table.

Harleen spoke after the match, and she said that what happened in the Delhi match gave her confidence as she knew she had to do better than the first two matches, which did not go the way she wanted them to. This is what a true champion is known for: whatever happened in the previous match, leave it there and start fresh from the new match, and she did so. Her team is known all set to play against the Mumbai Indians Women again on 17th January and from here each match is a must win for the UP Warriorz Women.
