There is a new update on whether Bangladesh will play the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 or not. The Bangladesh Cricket Board is firm on not traveling to India for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. We have just more than 20 days for the tenth edition of the T20 World Cup 2026 to begin. India and Sri Lanka are set to host the tournament as it commences from the 7th of February 2026 and ends on the 8th of March 2026.

The Board is very clear and still feels that security matters to them, and playing their matches in India will surely cause a lot of concerns after whatever is going on. Basically, the Bangladesh Cricket Board released a statement earlier today, and later there was a video conference among a few members of the board and the International Cricket Council (ICC).

There were quite a lot of members from the Bangladesh Cricket Board who attended the video meeting with the ICC. The BCB president, Aminul Islam, vice presidents Shakawath Hossain and Faruque Ahmed, director and chairman of the cricket operations committee, Nazmul Abedeen, and chief executive officer, Nizam Uddin Chowdhury, all of them were present in the meeting.

During the discussions, the BCB reaffirmed its position regarding the decision not to travel to India, citing security concerns

The board also reiterated its request for the ICC to consider relocating Bangladesh’s matches outside India.

While the ICC highlighted that the tournament itinerary has already been announced and requested the BCB to reconsider its stance, the board’s position remains unchanged. Both parties agreed that discussions will continue to explore possible solutions. The BCB remains committed to safeguarding the well-being of its players, officials and staff while engaging constructively with the ICC to address the matter.

As mentioned earlier, the Bangladesh Cricket Board was firm that they wouldn’t want to travel to India. ICC explained to the BCB that the itinerary has already been made and asked the BCB to travel to India and continue with their matches. Both ICC and BCB have decided that they will agree on a possible decision that favours both parties. The BCB wants the safety of the players to be its first priority.

A meeting was held before this, where ICC had spoken about them looking at the possible venues for the Bangladesh ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 matches. Chennai and Thiruvananthapuram were suggested as alternate venues. Bangladesh is in Group C along with England, Italy, Nepal, and the West Indies in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. As of now, they play three matches at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata and one at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
