It was a match between the Sydney Sixers and Melbourne Stars on Boxing Day. Babar Azam again fails on Boxing Day in the BBL as he gets put cheaply on a great hit by Glenn Maxwell. This was the must-win match for the Sydney Sixers as they had already lost two out of their first three matches. Sydney Cricket Ground in Sydney was the venue for the match.

All the eyes were on Babar Azam as he had just recently regained his form in the last match. His team played against Sydney Thunder, and Babar Azam scored 58 runs in 42 balls, which included five boundaries and two massive sixes. He also had a great partnership with Josh Philippe, which was for the 2nd wicket as they added 140 runs together. This was also the Sydney Sixers’ first win in the Big Bash League 2025/26 edition.

The Sydney Sixers were batting first, and it was Babar Azam and Daniel Hughes who opened the innings for them. Babar Azam got out cheaply as he was dismissed in the second over by Tom Curran with a great catch from Glenn Maxwell. Daniel Hughes was the only impressive batter as he scored 60 runs. Sydney Sixers scored 144/10 in their 20 overs. Tom Curran and Peter Siddle took three wickets each for the Melbourne Stars.

Sean Abbott got an early wicket for the Sydney Sixers as he dismissed Joe Clarke on the second ball of the innings. Later, it was a Sam Harper show as he scored 110* in just 60 balls, which included 12 boundaries and six massive sixes. He single-handedly took the match away from the Sydney Sixers, and eventually, the Melbourne Stars won the match by seven wickets and 15 balls to spare. Sam Harper was awarded the Man of the Match for his hundred.

The form of Babar Azam is a big concern for the team now, as in the first match, he got out for just two against the Perth Scorchers. Later in the second match, he was again dismissed cheaply at just nine runs against the Adelaide Strikers. In the third match he got a fifty against Sydney Thunder and had to continue his form but again got out cheaply in this match.
