As earlier, Australia won the series after winning the first three matches, the Ashes 2025/2026 is retained by the Australian team as they finished up winning the five-match series 4-1. Australia won the fifth test match at the Sydney Cricket Ground in Sydney. England’s Jacob Bethell put up a fight, but in the end, Australia won the test by five wickets. Usman Khawaja, as announced earlier, said that he will retire after the last series. A guard of honour was given to him by the England team.
The last and final day of the fifth test of the Ashes 2025/2026 started with England having a score of 302/8 on the board and a lead of 119. Jacob Bethell was batting on 142 runs. He could not add more to his total as he was dismissed for 154 runs as Mitchell Starc got him out. England eventually scored 342/10. The target of 160 was set for the Australian team to win the test match.
Ashes 2025/2026: Australia again retain the Ashes as they win 4-1
Australia’s Travis Head and Jake Weatherald came into bat as both players added 62 runs in 61 balls for the first wicket, with Travis Head being the first player to get out. In a couple of overs, Jake Weatherald also got out, but at that moment, it seemed like the Australian team had lost the match for them as Marnus Labuschagne and Steven Smith were on the crease, and it seemed like the players would easily win the match from there for the Australian team.
Australia lost the wicket of Steve Smith on 92 runs as Usman Khawaja came in to play his final international match for Australia. It was surely not the match he would wanted to end with as he was dismissed by Josh Tongue for just six runs. Just in the next over, Marnus Labuschagne was run out, and the match became interesting as Australia were 121/5 and they needed more than 39 runs to win the match.
At the end, both players, Alex Carey and Cameron Green, kept their calm and helped Australia go past the line, and eventually Australia won the match by five wickets and also the Ashes 4-1. Travis Head was named as the Man of the Match for the fifth test match for his knock of 163 runs in the first innings. He was also the highest run getter in the Ashes 2025/2026. Mitchell Starc was awarded the Player of the Series award for his brilliant bowling as he took 31 wickets in the five-test matches.
