The pressure was surely one the England bowlers as looking at the score they put on was very less. England’s bowlers started the innings on the front foot as Jofra Archer picked up Jake Weatherald on the second ball of the innings. They kept on putting pressure on the Australian batters.

Marnus Labuschagne and Steve Smith were playing smartly, but it was Jofra Archer again who took the second Australian wicket. It was then Brydon Carse who came into action and got the wicket of Steve Smith and Usman Khawaja in his back-to-back overs. Australia were 30/4. Travis Head and Cameron Green started to steady the innings and built a partnership. They put on 45 runs together.

Later, it was the Ben Stokes show. Stokes first took the wicket of Travis Head, and in his next over, he got the better of Cameron Green as well. A small partnership was being created by Mitchell Starc and Alex Carey, but it was again Ben Stokes who broke the partnership. He got Starc out. Australia were seven wickets down. In the second last over of the day, Ben Stokes again picked up two wickets as Australia ended on 123/9. Australia trail by 49 runs on stumps on day 1.
