After New Zealand defeated India in the test series, which happened in 2024, now again New Zealand humiliate India in the ODI series by winning the three-match ODI series after being down 1-0 after the first ODI. Who is to be blamed now? The players, the coach, or the selection committee, there might be a lot to be discussed about before India start their five-match T20I series, which ends a week before the start of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026.
This was the first time that New Zealand had won an ODI series in India, and what a way it was. Just to remind all the fans that New Zealand did not send their main team, as many of the players had little or no experience playing international cricket. To play and perform against a team like India in India, something that we just need to applaud. The team never gave up and, in the end, clinched the series 2-1.

New Zealand humiliate India: First-ever ODI series win in India
Shubman Gill put the New Zealand team to bat first in the third ODI, which was a decider. New Zealand put a total of 337/8 in 50 overs after having a bad start. Daryl Mitchell and Glenn Phillips added 219 for the fourth wicket as both players got a century. Daryl Mitchell scored 137 runs in 131 balls as this was his back-to-back century, and Glenn Phillips scored 106 runs in 88 balls. At the end, Michael Bracewell scored a quick 28, which helped New Zealand reach a pick total. Harshit Rana and Arshdeep Singh picked up three wickets each.
India lost Rohit Sharma early on, and later, Shubman was also dismissed. KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer also got out cheaply as India were 71/4 in 12.5 overs. There is always one man who is in the middle and gives everything for the team while chasing, and it is Virat Kohli. He scored his 85th century as he was the second last wicket to fall, and later the hopes of the fans too fell off. Nitish Kumar Reddy and Harshit Rana also got a fifty, but it wasn’t enough.
Eventually, India lost the match by 41 runs as Zakary Foulkes and Kristian Clarke both picked up three wickets, as Clarke got the important wicket of Virat Kohli and Nitish Kumar Reddy. At the end, India lost the series 2-1, and New Zealand’s Daryl Mitchell was awarded the Player of the series for his two centuries and one fifty in the three matches and was the Man of the Match in the last ODI. Now, the Indian team has a lot to worry about as the records under coach Gambhir are not impressive.
