ICC Men’s ODI Batting rankings: Virat Kohli back at number one, Rohit drops to 3

The ICC Men’s ODI Batting rankings are out for the month of January, and there is no guessing who has claimed the number one position. It is no other than Virat Kohli as he replaces Rohit Sharma in the first position, and Rohit drops to third place, and New Zealand’s Daryll Mitchell climbs a spot up and secures the number two spot. Nothing apart from this has changed in the top 10 of the ICC Men’s ODI Batting rankings.

When we look at the other players who have gained a ranking, one of them is India’s KL Rahul, who has moved from 12th place to 11th position after a great finish in the previous match against the New Zealand team. He has a rating of 654. Sri Lanka’s Pathum Nissanka also moved from 15th to 14th in the ranking as he has the same rating as New Zealand’s Rachin Ravindra, 639.

This was the first time since 2021 July that Virat Kohli was back in the number one position of the ICC Men’s ODI Batting rankings. In the last match against New Zealand, which was played at the BCA Stadium, Kotambi, Vadodara, Virat Kohli scored a brilliant knock of 93 runs in 91 balls, which helped India win the match and take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series. He also became the player to become the second highest run scorer in Men’s cricket, surpassing Sri Lanka’s Kumar Sangakkara.

The first time Virat reached the top spot in the ICC Men’s ODI Batting rankings in 2013, and it just feels like yesterday. He spent more than 820 days in the first spot from then. This was the most by any Indian batter. When we look at the all-time list, it is placed in the number 10 position, and the list surely is topped by one of the greatest batters ever, West Indies’ Sir Vivian Richards. He held the number one position in ICC Men’s ODI Batting rankings for more than 2300 days, which is more than six years.

When we talk about the number two, it is New Zealand’s Daryl Mitchell, as he has surpassed India’s Rohit Sharma, who was earlier the number one, and it was for the first time in Rohit’s career. Daryl Mitchell also impressed in the first ODI as he scored 84 runs, which helped him gain 10 points. Currently, Daryl Mitchell has a rating of 784, just one behind number one Virat Kohli.
