Bangladesh’s Sports Advisor, Asif Nazrul, says, “It feels like an issue of national humiliation” to travel to India for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026

With each day passing there situation is getting more and more tense for Bangladesh’s participation in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. Bangladesh’s Sports Advisor Asif Nazrul, in a press conference, says that “It feels like an issue of national humiliation” to travel to India for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 after the International Cricket Council (ICC) denied their matches to be moved from India to Sri Lanka.

Basically, we are just less than a month away from the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, which will commence on the 7th of February, with India and Sri Lanka being the hosts for the tenth edition of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. Bangladesh is in Group C and is set to play three matches at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata and one match at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

The latest update on this situation is that Bangladesh’s Sports Advisor, Asif Nazrul, has his say on the matter. He is completely on the word of Bangladesh, not playing the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, as this is all about the safety of the players, and now it all comes down to Bangladesh’s dignity. Basically, all of this started when the BCCI ordered the Kolkata Knight Riders to end their contract with Mustafizur Rahman, whom they had purchased in the Indian Premier League 2026 mini-auction.

When it comes to our cricketers’ safety, Bangladesh’s safety, and Bangladesh’s dignity, we won’t make any compromise. We want to play cricket, we want to play the World Cup – but we want to play in Sri Lanka.

Whatever happens next, we’ll take a stand accordingly. For now, we have taken this stand very clearly that we’ll convince the ICC that the atmosphere isn’t (right) for us to play in India.

It is not possible for the cricket board to ask for the security of each and every person from Bangladesh who goes to the World Cup, and this includes the team, as well as fans and journalists.

Asif Nazrul feels that they will stand accordingly, as it would not be safe for them to play in India, and it is not just for the players; it is also about the fans and the journalists. He also feels that the ICC is not able to completely understand what the Bangladesh Cricket Board has demanded. The team wants to play the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 matches, but not in India, as they would like to play in Sri Lanka.

There was also an online call between the Bangladesh Cricket Board and the ICC. In which ICC made it clear that Bangladesh has to travel to India if they want to participate in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. If they fail to agree on this, then their matches will be forfeited, and the tournament will go on. The Bangladesh Cricket Board is still waiting for an official confirmation from the International Cricket Council.
