ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026: No venue shift for Bangladesh matches

After the Bangladesh Cricket Board wanted to shift their venues for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, as they requested on 4th of January but now it is almost confirmed that the International Cricket Council (ICC) has decided that their matches won’t be shifted to other venues. Still, an official statement is yet to be released. According to TOI, you will either have to play your matches in India or forfeit the points.

After whatever has happened with Mustafizur Rahman in the recent days, the Bangladesh sports ministry had requested the Bangladesh Cricket Board not travel to India for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 due to safety reasons for the players. They had also banned the broadcasting of the Indian Premier League 2026 season after Mustafizur Rahman’s IPL 2026 contract was terminated by the Kolkata Knight Riders after the BCCI secretary had his say.

ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026: No venue shift for Bangladesh matches

Bangladesh is placed in Group C of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 along with England, Italy, Nepal, and the West Indies. They were going to play three of their four Group stage matches at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata (West Indies, England, and Italy). Bangladesh’s last match in the group stage is against Nepal, and the venue for that match is Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. As Pakistan plays all of its matches in Sri Lanka, Bangladesh also made a request for the same.

There was an online meeting regarding the issue between the ICC and the Bangladesh Cricket Board. The board said their points regarding the safety of the players, which led them to make a request for the safety of the players. The ICC does not see any basis to change the venue for the matches and gave its word to the Bangladesh Cricket Board that the matches would not be shifted to Sri Lanka.

A few of the reports also suggest that the Bangladeshi team has to travel to India if they want to participate in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, which is the tenth edition of the T20 World Cup. If they do not travel, then there is a risk of forfeiting the points, and the points will be awarded to the points. The Bangladesh Cricket Board says that it doesn’t have an official message from the International Cricket Council (ICC) and is still waiting for one from them.
