With the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 coming closer and closer, there is more and more drama happening off the field. After BCCI insisted that Kolkata Knight Riders release Mustafizur Rahman after they bought him in the IPL 2026 Auction, the tension is getting higher in Bangladesh. The Bangladesh Cricket Board says, “Bangladesh national team will not travel to India for the tournament under the current conditions”
Bangladesh very early booked their place in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 as they are placed in Group C along with England, Italy, Nepal, and the West Indies. Basically, this will be the tenth edition of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup as India and Sri Lanka are all set to host the tournament. The starting date of the tournament is the 7th of February 2026, and the date of the final is the 8th of March 2026.

ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026: BCB says”Bangladesh national team will not travel to India for the tournament under the current conditions”
After whatever happened with Mustafizur Rahman, the situation has heated up, and it has been reported that the Bangladesh Board has said that they won’t be traveling to India and have requested that the Bangladesh matches be rescheduled to Sri Lanka, as Pakistan already plays their matches in Sri Lanka. Bangladesh plays their three games at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata and one match at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
Following a thorough assessment of the prevailing situation and the growing concerns regarding the safety and security of the Bangladesh contingent in India and considering the advice from the Bangladesh government, the Board of Directors resolved that the Bangladesh national team will not travel to India for the tournament under the current conditions
In light of this decision, the BCB has formally requested the International Cricket Council (ICC), as the event authority, to consider relocating all of Bangladesh’s matches to a venue outside India.
We welcome this decision taken in the context of the extreme communal policy of India’s cricket board
The sports ministry of Bangladesh feels that playing in India would not be safe for their players, and they have requested the International Cricket Council (ICC) to shift their matches. A month ago, more than a hundred fans protested near the Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi after Hindu factory worker Dipu Chandra Das was beaten. The sentiments of India got hurt, and they showed their feelings and were also not convinced that Mustafizur Rahman should be purchased in the IPL Auction.
Still, there is no confirmation about the shifting of the venues from India to Sri Lanka for the Bangladesh team. This thing will be taken into consideration, and as soon as we are nearing the month, which is just a little more than a month away, the decision will be made soon. The Bangladesh board is clear they won’t be travelling to India for their matches.
