At present, Liverpool are the table-toppers in the Premier League and the UCL. Although there are 20 remaining games, Liverpool has already won the 2024-25 Premier League. The games are just a formality to the team at this point. Over the course of time, Liverpool has experienced, nurtured and produced some of the best players of all time.
Players such as Steven Gerrard (former), Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk, and Xabi are just some names off the top of my head. I am sure you can think of more. The Anfield has seen many Liverpool legends come and go in its history.
Top 10 Greatest Liverpool Players of All Time – Ranked in 2025
It’s obvious that it’s not possible to cover every great player in just the top 10 list. Our opinions may differ regarding the list, but you have to know that it’s challenging to pick just 10 among the pool of legends. However, we can agree on the Number 1 player on the list.
The list consists of not just the greatest players but also those who had the potential to become greater than that and turn into Liverpool legends.
10) Michael Owen

Michael Owen joined Liverpool’s senior team at 17 in 1997. He had an incredible pace at that age and was an excellent striker. He had scored 158 goals in 297 appearances. In his first season, at 17, he scored 23 goals in 44 games.
He won the Ballon d’Or in 2000-01 before he turned 22. Michael Owen won four trophies in 2002, which included the FA Cup, UEFA Cup, League Cup, and UEFA Super Cup. The final trophy was the League Cup in 2003. In 2004, he transferred to Real Madrid, which came as a disappointment to many fans. It is considered that he had the potential to turn into a Liverpool legend.
9) Fernando Torres

Feranand Toress was known for his speed and finishing ability during his prime. Despite an incredible performance in Liverpool from 2007 to 2011, the team couldn’t win any trophies during his tenure. Although he had several injuries at Liverpool, he still scored 81 goals in 142 appearances.
Regardless of no trophies and injuries, he won the Fans’ Player of the Season award in 2007-2008. Liverpool also rejected Chelsea’s £40 million bid for Fernando Torres’s transfer.
8) Xabi Alonso

Acknowledged by Steven Gerrard as the best midfielder he played with, Xabi Alonso is certainly one of the best midfielders of his time. He is mainly known for his passing rather than scoring. In his 210 appearances, he scored only 19 goals but provided many decisive assists and passes.
Xabi was incredible at long and short-range passing. Although he is not among the top scorers and assists, he was the core playmaker of Liverpool. With his playmaking skills, Xabi assisted Liverpool in lifting the Champions League (2005), the FA Cup (2006), and the UEFA Super Cup (2005).

Trent was part of Liverpool’s team that won the Premier League, Champions League, FIFA Club World Cup, and UEFA Super Cup in the 2019-20 season.
Trent was next in line to be Liverpool’s captain until he decided to leave for Real Madrid on a free transfer before the end of the 2024-25 season. Regardless of the criticism he is facing, Trent has been one of the best right-back defenders in the Liverpool team.
6) Luis Suarez

Before joining Barcelona’s forward line, Luis Suarez played for Liverpool from 2011 to 2014. He had scored 82 goals in just 133 appearances. He scored 30 goals in the 2012-13 season and was awarded the Standard Chartered Player of the Season.
In his three-and-a-half-year career at Liverpool, he won the 2012 League Cup with the team and several individual awards.
5) Virgil van Dijk

Transferred from Southampton for £75 million, Virgil van Dijk was the most expensive defender in 2018. Liverpool won their first Premier League title in 2019-20 after van Dijk joined the team. The 2025-25 and Liverpool’s second Premier League trophy were under his leadership.
He is one of the best defenders in the Premier League and a key player in Liverpool’s defensive line. Virgin van Djik was a part of Liverpool’s team for the Premier League (2019-20, 2024-25), Champions League (2019), FIFA Club World Cup (2019), FA Cup (2022), Carabao Cup (2022, 2024), UEFA Super Cup (2019), and FA Community Shield (2022).
4) Alisson Becker

Goalkeepers are the last line of defence and are rarely in the top 10 players list of all time. Alisson Becker was signed to Liverpool from Roma for £65 million, and he was worth every penny. He is arguably one of the best goalkeepers Liverpool has ever seen. Although there were a few mishaps along the way, Alisson always bounced back and saved Liverpool when it mattered the most.
He was awarded the Premier League Golden Glove 2019 for 21 clean sheets and the UEFA Goalkeeper of the Year 2019. Despite the injuries in his final season, Alisson clutched onto save the penalty kicks that secured their victory against Chelsea in the 2022 FA Cup final.
3) Sadio Mane

Sadio Mane was at Liverpool for six years, and each year he was among the top players. With Salah and Frimino, Mane was a dominating figure in Liverpool’s forward line. He finished second in the 2002 Ballon d’Or after Karim Benzema.
